The San Gennaro Foundation

In September of 2002, television personality Jimmy Kimmel, producer Doug DeLuca, restaurateur Frankie Competelli and some of Los Angeles’ most prominent Italian-American citizens, got together and produced the first annual Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro, Los Angeles, presented by Ralphs. The event proved to be extremely successful, but as a group we soon realized that being a not-for-profit music, culture and food festival wasn't enough to achieve our greater mission. In the spirit of our Italian ancestors, we wanted not only to share our culture and history with the world, but to take the generosity and fellowship Italians are known for and do positive things for others - just as our people have done for centuries. As Italian-Americans we have great gifts to share with the world, not the least of which is our love for people and for life. With these thoughts in mind, we created The San Gennaro Foundation. The mission of The San Gennaro Foundation is to uphold the principles that were established by St. Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, Italy who worked tirelessly to help people in need. In addition to raising necessary funds, we seek to perpetuate cultural identity and solidarity within the Italian-American community and to propagate unity and cooperation among Italian Americans. All events put on by the Foundation are intended to embody the attributes of generosity and goodwill that define the Italian spirit. With such strong values at the heart of our organization, it seemed natural to share these values with those who could help perpetuate them for generations to come. As a result, The San Gennaro Foundation chose to focus primarily on helping resource-challenged children through various programs such as mentoring, scholarships and educational workshops. Additionally, as our Festival is a celebration of abundance, we thought it proper to help those who have very little by supporting various shelters and feeding programs for the homeless. The San Gennaro Foundation plans to leave a legacy here in Southern California. People are the future and we plan to invest in them. With the help of our selfless volunteers and generous donors, we aim to make the world a better place. We will show all those with open hearts that “Life is Beautiful.”

Grazie!
